Responsibilities
SUMMARY
The Estimator is responsible for providing accurate cost estimates to his/her team for product manufacturing, construction projects or services as required by customers documents. This position is essential to maintain workflow efficiency and enabling various departments to perform at their best.
Education Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION
- High School diploma or equivalent, with some background in estimating.
PREFERRED EDUCATION
- Degree in Construction Management or equivalent work experience and education preferred
Experience Requirements
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- At least 3 years of estimating experience in an industrial construction environment preferred
Skills
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
- Technically competent with various software programs, such as Sage estimating
- Ability to work with a diverse set of personalities at all levels of the organization (both internally and externally)
- Must have excellent math and analytical skills and an eye for detail
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Ability to read blueprints
- Familiarity with Autodesk products, Solidworks, SalesForce, ProCore, and Bluebeam a plus
- Strong oral/written communication skills
- Strong visualization skills
- Construction and contracting experience a plus
Qualifications
- Prepare accurate estimates that are used for planning, organizing, scheduling or budgeting work
- Assist with job take off, estimating and proposal preparation
- Review documents and understands scope of work to bid
- Execute take-offs of construction documents with assistance from Engineering staff
- Input take-offs into Sage Estimating
- Obtain pricing for materials
- Obtain bids from sub-contractors
- Confer with appropriate parties on changes and adjustments to cost estimates (i.e. engineers, architects, owners, contractors, sub-contractors, etc.)
- Informs appropriate Team Lead or Project Manager of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or in Sage Estimating
- Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
- In coordination with the Team Lead and/or the Project Manager, establish the completion rate and progress related to the project
- Analyze drawings, prints, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, material and labor estimates
- Review estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
- Work with appropriate internal departments to maintain current project files
- Visit job sites with Team Lead or Project Manager as necessary
- Prepare documents for quotations from vendors
- Attend all required job status meetings. Will also assist in the scheduling and follow-up required post meeting
- Help prepare and maintain percent complete worksheets for all major projects. Maintain accuracy on an ongoing basis.
- Assist Engineering and Accounting in specialized billing situations
- Follow-up on estimates by monitoring actual versus percent complete
- Assist in creating change orders
- Maintain and complete project manuals
